Barcelona for Foodies: One Perfect Day of Eating
Brunch, a market, an old-school paella, vermut hour and a tapas dinner. One day, zero tourist traps, and exactly where I'd take a food-obsessed friend after 15 years of eating my way through this city.
Morning
Start slowBrunch at The Egg Lab
Family-run, everything made from scratch, and coffee as good as the eggs. Order something savoury and something sweet to share, you have a long day of eating ahead and it starts here.

Skip the crush at La Boqueria and walk to the market with the wavy, colourful roof in El Born. This is where the neighbourhood actually shops. Wander the stalls, grab a few slices of jamón and some olives, and save room.
Afternoon
The main eventPaella at Can Solé
Walk down to Barceloneta for paella the way it's been done here since 1903. Seafood paella or the black rice, a cold bottle of white, and absolutely no rush. This is the long Spanish lunch you came for.

Stroll the seafront back toward El Born and let lunch settle. Grab an ice cream or a cortado on the way, then rest your feet. Dinner here doesn't start until nine.
Evening
Vermut, then tapasCava on tap at El Xampanyet
Pouring since 1929 and still packed every night. Squeeze in at the bar, order the house cava or a vermut, and add the anchovies and the creamy cheese. Loud, tiled, and perfect.

Just off La Rambla but nothing like it. Grab a seat at the long counter, watch the kitchen, and let the waiters steer you toward whatever seafood came in that day. The best way to end a day of eating.

- ✓Lunch is the big meal here, so book paella for 2 PM and keep breakfast light
- ✓Book dinner a few days ahead, the good counters fill up fast
- ✓Order to share. Tapas are meant for the table, not one plate each
