Mallorca in 48 Hours
Your first time on the island, and only two days to fall for it. This is exactly how I'd spend them, the city, the mountains and the sea, after years of calling Mallorca home. Rent a car, you'll want it for day two.
Day One
Palma and the southPalma Cathedral and the Gothic streets
Start at La Seu, the cathedral that looks like it is floating above the sea. Then put your phone away and get lost in the old town behind it. The narrow stone streets, the hidden patios, the little squares. This is the Palma most day-trippers walk straight past.
Lunch in Santa Catalina
Cross into Santa Catalina, the neighbourhood where Palma actually eats. Start at the market stalls, grab a stool, order more than you planned. This is the kind of long, slow lunch that makes you want to move here.

Drive 15 minutes out and trade the city for the sea. Whether you want a full party scene or just a quiet sunbed and a swim, the coast near Palma has both. Stay for golden hour, the light here does something to you.

Mallorca nights start late and end later. Dinner first, then drinks somewhere with atmosphere, sunset cocktails in an old quarry, a club where locals actually go, or just a wander through Santa Catalina's bars. Pace yourself, day two is a big one.

The mountains and the west coastMorning in Valldemossa
Get an early start and drive up into the Tramuntana. Valldemossa is the prettiest village on the island, stone houses, green shutters, flowers spilling off every balcony. Coffee and a coca de patata before the tour buses arrive, then wander before it fills up.
Lunch and a swim in Deià
Continue along the coast road to Deià, the artists' village clinging to the mountainside. Lunch with a view, then climb down to Cala Deià, a rocky cove with impossibly clear water. It is all rocks and zero sand, and it is worth every step down.
Sóller and the vintage tram
Drop into the valley to Sóller, then ride the wooden tram from the town down to Port de Sóller. It has been running for over a hundred years and it is still the best way to arrive at the sea. Ice cream at the port is non-negotiable.
Sunset over the Tramuntana
End where the island shows off. Find a viewpoint along the coast and watch the sun drop behind the mountains into the sea. Sa Foradada, the rock with a hole in it, is the classic, but honestly any pull-off on this road delivers. The perfect last memory of your first 48 hours.
